Day 28 Prompt

For The Spoopy Season Challenge: "What do you want to be known for when you're gone?"

Initial Thoughts

There are a lot of things that I'd love to be known for or as, but to pick one? Oof. We could also look at this question and think less morbidly as in "when you leave" or "part ways"...

I like the death idea though because when you're gone you can do no more to change it and that's how you'll be known.

How I Want to be Known

When it comes to me being gone, I want to be known as a man of more than his word. This may sound a bit cliché so I ought to explain.

Our words mean things only when they convey the actions or entities of truth. Entities are nouns, people, and places, where as actions are what we (or others) do.

We trust words when they're accurate and we like those who speak truth.

In chasing that I want to be seen as a man who says things founded in the truth of my actions. Day by day I learn more and more that all that really matters is what you do, not what you say.

I've made a lot of grand promises and dreams to people. Dreams that I believe in whole heartedly and look for ways to make happen daily, but dreams that are just that: dreams.

I must take actions such as writing everyday to become a writer, blogger, and author. I must pray everyday to become a man of God that I desire to be and discuss with others. And I must learn to tame my mouth so that I don't state impossibilities to sound sweet in the moment.

A man of his word is trust worthy, actionable, and someone that you can count on. Even better is a man of more than his word. Someone who says things (realistically) and follows up with so much more.

Going above and beyond.

A man of more than his word is the one who when all is said and done gave you more than you deserve because of your value as a person. Gave you more out of his generosity. A generous heart towards others is how I want to be seen by giving more than owed.

This isn't a desire for recognition though as a man of more than his word only focuses on the actions and not their net impact. Sometimes I will fail, but I hope the times I succeed and do more help to create a net positive.

Being a man of more than his word is a hard ideal to shoot for, but one I strive for daily.

How about you?

How do you want to be remembered? Are you a person of action or dreams and words? Do you think "one day" or  do you think "today"? Where do you struggle to achieve that? Let me know! and as always,

Thanks for Reading!
